Walls with Paint: Birdwatcher

In 'Walls with Paint', Eindhoven local, photographer, and art fan Lukedaduke shares the story behind a special street art project in Eindhoven. This month: the attraction of Eindhoven.

Eindhoven is a city that attracts people from all over the world. Companies like Philips and truck builder DAF had their share in putting the town on the map in the past. Nowadays, Brainport lures people from far to come to Eindhoven.

Artist Joram Roukes has visualized the similarities between people and birds in a piece at the Alberdingk Thijmlaan. He painted collages of different birds, like migratory birds, exotics, or homebound birds that nest here.

Birds and humans are similar: they migrate to places where life is better

After whiting the walls and sketching with a marker (take a close look at the birds; sometimes the red is still visible), Joram started painting with boat paint. Usually, this kind of paint gives boats a new protective layer (duh!), but Joram found that it was particularly suitable to paint the walls of the Alberdingk Thijmlaan-tunnel. The effect he creates resembles oil paint, a material he usually uses to paint on canvas.

The painting has a symbolic value and gives the tunnel from the '50s a fresh new look. The tunnel is also a good-looking passageway between the Stadswandelpark and the Genneper Parken.

Enjoy!
