Walls with Paint: Balloon Party

In 'Walls with Paint, ' Eindhoven-based artist, photographer, and art lover Lukedaduke shares his story behind a unique street artwork in Eindhoven. This month: the festive work 'Balloon Party' by Jan Is De Man.

Looking back to previous years, 2022 can be considered a period full of celebration. We can go to the pub, the cinema or the museum again. We went to festivals, and a concert in De Effenaar is also possible again!

The balloons by Utrecht-based graffiti artist JanIsDeMan brightened up the party in Eindhoven even more . At the intersection where the Emmasingel and Mathildelaan merge into the Boschdijktunnel, Jan took care of the two pillars between the Media Markt and the Piazza. And with success!

Jan began creating street art in his teenage years. As he grew older, more and more people noticed his unique talent. And that got rewarded! Paid commissions slowly came his way.

His spatial murals fool our eyes. No surprise that he became famous with this kind of artwork. In fact, his "bookcase" murals, for example, can be found in various places in Europe. His project, in which he glues eyes to houses and gives them a funny face, can also be found in multiple locations.

In Eindhoven, he opted for cheerful balloons ! They are held together by four pillars and carry the walkway across the street. You have to walk around and look carefully: from the right angle, it looks like the mural blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The joke's on you. The observant watcher may even find the "Janderijn."
