The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of the most siginificant museums of modern and contemporary art in the Netherlands. The museums own internationally famous collection includes works by Picasso, Kandinsky, Mondriaan, Appel, Miró, Willink and Christo. As well as this collection, the museum aslo boasts a pioneering exhibition programme, in which the newest developments in contemporary art can be seen.
Even the building alone is worth a visit. The old museum (1936) from architect Kropholler was recently renovated while at the same time a whole new section was built. With its striking design, architect Abel Cahen has made a significant contribution to Dutch museum architecture. The 27 meter high tower is the real eye-catcher. The interior is described as refined, minimalist and daring. The new library can be included as one of the best centres of knowlegde for visual art in the country.
